Who runs this site
This site is owned and run by one person: Joshua Bartlett, a homeowner (and long-time renter before that) who has spent about 19 years fixing up the places he’s lived. He’s not a licensed tradesman, and this site doesn’t pretend otherwise.

How the content is made
Much of this site’s library was originally produced by freelance writers working with editors. In 2026, we began substantially rewriting and re-fact-checking that library, guide by guide, to a stricter standard: claims verified against manufacturer documentation and safety sources like the CPSC and NFPA, sources cited inline, and no claims of hands-on testing unless it actually happened.
Over the years, several smaller home-improvement sites were also purchased and merged into this one, which is why some guides originally appeared elsewhere.
